Setting up Volumio on rasp pi 4

I cannot get Volumio to start running on my Rpi 4. I have tried a dozen times. I have no idea what is wrong. I have tried re formatting the card. I have tried different cards. I tried loading Ropiee and that would not work. In every instance, I get a solid red led as soon as I apply power. Nothing else happens. Even after hours of being on. I cannot see it’s wireless radio, and I cannot see the wired Ethernet either. This is my first experience with raspberry pi so I have no idea as to what I should be seeing.

What volumio version do you use?
With what are you burning the image?
Did you extract the image or not?
What kind of power supply do you use?
How big is the card u use?

Version 3.324
Belina Etcher
The file was an image file and there was another file with it. That seemed strange to me. So I went back through the whole process and there was no extraction involved. When I tried RoPieee the files don’t get extracted before being etched. So tell me, is there a problem here. What should this process look like?
The power supply is the 3 amp that came with it
The card is 64 GB that came with it. The format is FAT 16. FAT 32 did not seem to be available in the software. I was using my disc utility in my Mac.

Volumio is a zipped file you need to extract it before burning.
And if balena etcher doesn’t work for you try win32diskimager (pc)
And if it’s a orginal rpi power supply your good to go.

The file was definitely extracted. It was an .img file.
About the link you sent… when I turn on power I have a solid red light. Not no lights.

If you extract the file then he can burn the img file and make the drives
You will get 3 drives 1 fat (boot) and 2 linux partitions.

By the way… thanks for the help. This has been driving me crazy for a week!

No problem we all went true the rabbit hole ones :stuck_out_tongue:
And i’m still learning new things …

Ok… I don’t understand the 3 drives part. That was not part of the instructions

It’s late here. I will retry this tomorrow. But at this point I am not sure what I would do differently.

Oke i will explane the boot part is fat32 and from there it boots loading
The other files that are in the linux partitions like the system ( OS )and volumio
It’s not like a peace of software it’s all in one.

So do I need to format as Fat 32?

It will create it by it’s self it wipes the whole disk and will create them all

Ok, got it. So it doesn’t matter what’s on the disk.

Just remove all imported files before and format the drive fat32 just in case.
And the rest he will do in the burn procces and at first boot ( resizing the drive to max size the time resizing can take some time how bigger the drive how longer the time it should be done in 10-15min max.)

Ok, will try again tomorrow.

Oke if you have any questions just ask here are plenty who will help.

Just tried it again… when I turn on the power all I get is a solid red light. Is that normal? I would have expected something to flash or change colors?

Normal it would be green.
What is the procces that you did? Step by step.

  1. download fresh image for the site.
  2. extract zip file
  3. Open win32diskimager import extracted file
  4. Burn image
  5. Insert micro sd in the pi
  6. Boot pi up

Power is off on the Pi
Plug in Ethernet cable
Install sd card
Turn on power
At this point solid red light comes on and stays on
I wait 5 minutes
I turn on the app
I click on set up new device
I click on wired device
After about 20 seconds i get a message saying it could not find my device.
Light is still solid red

Is there an easy way to figure out if the Pi is even working?

I seem to have Run out texts that I can send so I am checking to see if I can edit this.

Ahh that worked…

The red led is on the board.

So you see the setup of volumio?
Because fist you have to run the setup of volumio to get it working.
But the solid red doesn’t sound good.
Is the red led on the pi board or on a case ?

You got 2 leds on board 1 power led and 2 act led this one should be flashing
During boot.
