Public Alpha Test: Audio Without Compromise - Volumio on Bookworm Begins

@Robert.Hecht - @nerd

Raspberry Pi 3B
I have a TIDAL Individual account - I log in without any problems via Volumio 0.062
Tidal is working properly.
Tidal also works without any problems in Volumio 3.807.

I also have a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 WH with Raspberry Pi DAC+.
Works ok Volumio 0.062 - Lifetime License - Tidal - Internet Radio - 80s80s Radio

Hi @tweed77 ,

did you try Tidal Connect from a Tidal App to feed your Volumio device? In my case every jump to another music title shows up this “could not connect to server” error message in the Tidal App. Nevertheless it works - the next title is played correctly.

Best regards, Robert

@Robert.Hecht

Raspberry Pi Zero 2 WH - Volumio 0.062 with Raspberry Pi DAC+.

I have the lifetime license version of Volumio.
I am connected to Tidal through Volumio.
When I launch the Tidal Connect application on my phone, I can select the music stream to Volumio in the options.

Then the selected song plays on Volumio.

The only message on Volumio is the information:
Tidal Connect Connection
A device has connected using Tidal Connect.

Music plays without problems on Volumio

Hey @JohnR,

Can you test 0.062 - and confirm the status please?

Kind Regards,

Hi , I have already loaded it to an sd card but ran out of time yesterday. I’m not back home till Friday , sorry for the delay. I couldn’t get ssh to work with 0.61 I will check again . I also have a pi 1B so will test that too.

@nerd ,
OTA update to 0.062 on Raspi5 has worked without any problem.
Despite your announcement in update-message

  • Bluetooth plugin reinvented :tada:

The current USB connection remains and my “remote” is still working properly.

What persists (on my installation - with SD-card, no USB/NVME) : No reboot …

But again an awesome piece of work!
Thanks!!!

Warmest regards,
Ralf

Hi @tweed77 ,
the error message occurs in the Tidal app - not in Volumio.
Cheers,
Robert

No error massage in the Tidal app.
Tidal Individual License.
Can be played on one device at a time.

If I play music on Volumio from Tidal.
When I try to play a piece of music in the Tidal App - it says that the music is played by Volumio.

This is how it works with the Tidal Individual license

Thanks, @tweed77 ,
this is what I see every time when I start a new song in my Tidal app:

Nevertheless Volumio plays the song correctly.
Cheers,
Robert

Hi dear, i have a rpi 4 2gb running on the bookworm 0.062 version. Everything seems to be great, but the search function is really slow and crashes sometimes. Also all of the youtube plugins doesnt work. Please fix that. I know you are in battle with Google because of the ads. But Is a youtube version with muted ads a solution? That you can see a countdown in the gui? Can you also make a possibility to play livestreams by youtube music?

Thanks for your reply

Youtube plugins are created by a community member like you and me, it’s not with Volumio.
For every fix you need to rely on @patrickkfkan free time. Google makes more changes everytime than Patrick has time to solve it. So please be patient.

@nerd
I’m just curious: can Bookworm get additional information from TAG?
Regards

Hey @Gelo5,

Thanks for raising this.

To confirm: no, Bookworm does not yet support TAGs, and there’s been no backend change in this area compared to Buster.

At present, TAG support is not yet on the roadmap - it will be considered during the backend overhaul, once we begin scoping the new roadmap after the Bookworm migration is complete.

For now, we remain in feature freeze. Only bug fixes and regressions are being addressed while we finalize the migration and prepare for the upcoming kernel upgrade and public beta.

Kind Regards,

Boot Calibration Special (v0.063)

Fixes:

  • Restyled Plymouth splash for dynamic screens of all shapes and rotations.
(Yes, even the upside-down SPI ones.)

  • Micro-sequence fallback now appears on small displays.
Trimmed logos should be a thing of the past - but if they aren’t…

Calling All Boot Photographers!
This is a visual calibration release. We need your splash screen photos from real devices.

When you post, please include:

  • Brand / Model of the screen (if known)
  • Native resolution (e.g., 800×480, 1024×600, etc.)
  • Connection type: DSI, SPI, HDMI, VGA, etc.
  • Rotation: 0°, 90°, 180°, 270°
  • Any visible cropping, stretching, misalignment, or text overlap

No need to cherry-pick or beautify - this is boot logo telemetry in the wild.

We’re tuning the theme for all geometries and weird setups, so even a bad photo helps.
You shoot, we calibrate.

x86-specific:

  • No splash logos were harmed in the making of this build. Yet.

Kind Regards,

After update to 0.063 my boot screen looks like this on Rpi Touch Display 2

with rotation=270

best regards/ C

Hey @ClaesM,

Perfect! A “micro” splash versions in effect. Please update your post with screen details.
When you find a moment, please use rotation too.

Kind Regards,
