[PLUGIN] Glass - Phoenix risen from the PeppyMeter Screensaver ashes

Dear Volumionauts,

The second announcement from the clinic: triage has been automated.

Until now, a typical admission went like this. The patient arrives, says “it doesn’t work”, and leaves no log, no version and no symptoms, only a vague sense of dissatisfaction. The surgeon then spends three posts extracting a history, by which time the patient has upgraded twice and the problem has moved house.

Not any more. The Manager’s Status tab now has a triage nurse: “Find a problem”.

Tell it what is wrong and it runs the checks the Manager can run on its own. Is the player playing? Is the display on the screen, or did it die? Is the audio tap at the head of the sound path, and is what plays actually measured? Are the controls on, and is there a panel to touch? Who owns the screen, and is it turned the right way? Are remote displays served and receiving? Did the display quietly lower its frame rate?

It then lists the likely causes first, then what is worth knowing, then what it checked and found healthy. Each item has a button straight to the tab where it is set. Many patients will be cured in the waiting room and never see the surgeon. The surgeon is fine with that.

If the nurse cannot settle it, press “Make a report”:

  • Start. Glass switches to full logging and restarts the display, so its own lines are complete too. The level goes back by itself afterwards, so nobody’s journal is left bloated.
  • Reproduce. Do whatever goes wrong, then write one line on what you did and what you saw.
  • The system log goes to Volumio’s log server through Volumio’s own submitter, passwords left out, and its link joins the report.
  • The report collects your words, the time window, the log link, the findings and the status sheet in one parcel.

Then hand it in: “Open a GitHub issue” for a defect, which opens with the report already in it, or “Copy for the forum” for a question. On a player with no internet, “Download the system log” gives you the file to attach.

So the old excuse “I didn’t know what to send” has been formally retired, alongside Python and pygame. From now on, “it doesn’t work” without a report gets a polite smile and a link.

The full procedure:

Kind Regards,
