no backup file in SMB folder

Hi all,
I have the new Pi3+ here and want to backup my Pi2 volumio config via the plugin.

I run the latest Volumio 2.378
and the backup-restore-plugin from 18.11.2017

I have mounted a samba share ( OpenMediaVault ) with music on it and can hear from it without a problem.

When i hit “backup” i get a message that its saved sucessfully.
But there is no .tgz file on the NAS.

Volumio has 192.168.0.40
NAS has 192.168.0.80

The plugin saves the backup to the samba share on the Volumio device.

Maybe a newbee question, but:
Where can I enter the samba share?

Windows dont find a networkstorage at volumio ip.

Portscan find no open port at 445.

I have no idea.

Does it (Windows) see Volumio as a network device?

Yes volumio is listed as windows network device.

but whern i click it, the browser open and i see the webinterface.

Just tried this (don’t normally use Windows) and my volumio devices appear as media devices & computers under Network from Windows Explorer. Double clicking on the computer Volumio shows me me “Internal Storage”, which is the samba share on Volumio.

I can see the Volumio Networkdevice in the Windows-Explorer too.

But when i double click it the Browser with the webinterface opens.

I have two Raspberry with volumio here and both behave the same.
Maybe it is a windows problem?

I get the SMB connection working.

Put a USB-Stick in the raspberry and connect to:

\\volumioIP\usb no user and password needed

but i cant find the backup-file…

There are still few networking issues with Pi3b+, so maybe something is playing bad tricks to SMB?..
However if you SSH into your Pi (enable SSH from /dev page), you should see backup file into: /data/INTERNAL, and eventually scp it from there.

ahh thx!
your right the backup file is in /data/INTERNAL .

But i cant get the internal folder connected via SMB to windows.

Have you tried mounting the share as a network drive?

yes i tried it with

\data\INTERNAL
\data\internal
\internal
\INTERNAL
\Internal

but no success

\192.168.0.40\usb works without a problem.

Maybe it would be a cool feature when the SMB shares are listed in the Webinterface to browse it and
with a button to up/download to/from the shares??
Than mounting in windows-Network becomes optional to use it.

The folder on Volumio is indeed ‘/data/INTERNAL’ BUT the samba share name is “Internal Storage” … this is what Windows will actually see.

There are several confirmed networking issues on Pi3b+ currently, affecting network sharing, etc… (kernel-level, not a much Volumio thing).
So until this get fixed & integrated, I would not recommend spending too much time on fighting on SMB.
Moving your SD onto a Linux PC to get the file (or getting via scp or similar) might be a better short-term workaround for now I’m afraid.

I may improve the plugin at some point to do direct file download, rather than depend on SMB.

Thats the Trick!

THX!!

It is working now!!

I can see it in Windows with the backup files in it .

Thank you for your help and
patience.
