Multichannel DSD playback

Hi all,

Not sure this is a Help topic, or a Feature request…

I’ve been playing with a Volumio install on a x86 hardware (MS Surface Pro) as a DLNA/UPnP renderer, and feeding my OctoDAC8Pro via USB from it.

Volumio plays 5.1 DSD natively/correctly, but refuses to play 5.0 DSD (complaining on the “wrong parameter given to ALSA”). This was an issue with Volumio 3, and I was hoping that maybe it’ll get addressed in version 4… but alas! no.

Is there a way to fix this without converting to PCM?

How do you play dsd 5.1? Can you explain?

sorry for the late response:

files reside on a NAS; there is a DLNA/UPnP server on the network (JRiver on a Linux virtual box); Volumio install as described above, USB out to Okto DAC8PRO, then analog out to the amp.

Both Roon and JRiver do that correctly (on Windows via ASIO) – AND play 5.0 files too. I was hoping to move away from Widows-based renderer, but can’t find a way…
