Khadas Tone Board

This shop is simply crap. I wanted to update country to ship from France to Germany but is not possible, the site doesnt accept. Simply crap. Also the price jumps from €14,90 to €20,00 before shipping, no description available why this happens!!!

That is indeed crap… I can not explain why a price would jump with around 33% (15 to 20 EUR) - not even thinking of VAT or other taxes.

Until now I had only positive experiences with Audiophonics. Was one of my favorite shops.

By choosing “paypal” as the method of payment you can do the purchase but at the end they charge incl. shipping €34,90 which is way to high.

This is strange… I am buying staff from Audiophonics on a regular basis, from Germany. Never got a problem like that!

Of course, shipping charges increase, as it would for someone living in France and ordering in Germany…

So it might well be that ordering for 12€ only is not making sense because of the shipping costs…

I tend to wait and group my purchases to save on the shipping costs.

Crap shop? Not for me, so far I have had only positive experiences with this shop.
Of course shipping costs increase a little, but you can’t really blame them for that.
Good in my case: they even take taxes off automatically (non-EU) and processing is fast.

Point is they charge twice. For shipping and for packaging also, total amount above 18,30€ within EU?

They charge: 8€ for “Frais de port” + €10,30 Collissimo (for Germany)

I believe there is a mistake somewhere… colissimo is the “frais de port”.

Colissimo is the french postal service, like DHL Parcel in Germany.

I just did a simulation, with shipment to my address in Germany:

Seems they worked around or I did something wrong but I just verified what you say and yes, prob is sorted out now. Thanks!!

Good evening, I ask you. On khadas forum they do not answer. Has anyone tried khadas tone board with hardware volume control? There is a step by step guide but the control works at the touch of the fingers. I wanted to know if anyone tried with normal rotary encoder or potentiometer .and if the brutefir plugin works. I hope in an answer

No, we did not, just the new firmware update which allows hw control through the Volumio interface.
Intriguing option though, I’ll ping Khadas through my channels too.

thank you

Several cases reported here https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-and-measurements-of-wesiontek-khadas-tone-board-dac.4823/page-42#post-147683, they marked wrong side the labeling and you cant See and longer the white LED!!! … what a bummer Audiophonics.fr !!! Shame on you!!

and your reason for outing your frustration on the volumio forum would be?
Did you buy one? When yes, why not complain to the supplier directly?

No, I did not, not yet. The reason seems obvious to me, just warning potential buyers to do so. In a thread regarding the Tone Board.

I’m hearing negative things about audiophonics. and also and dear.io khadas tone board I buy it directly in China .ci takes 20 days but costs 70 euros including shipping

Listen hard enough, in the right place, and you can hear negative comments on whatever you like, even Volumio!

It’s tough having a choice between a European based seller, with stock, selling at €105, and a Chinese seller offering at €70 but 4 weeks shipping.

Since moving to France (last year) I have used Audiophonics on a number of occasions; mostly because they had what I want in stock, at a reasonable price, with mostly next day shipping. I’ve yet to have a problem with anything I’ve bought (including a KTB, a Boss Dac 1.2 and an Isolator 1.2. Should I have a problem, I am comfortable that it will be quickly and easily resolved.

As I opened with, be thankful you have a choice. Sometimes it’s more than just the product at the cheapest price, it’s the service that goes with it.

In that case it seems they labeled a case wrong side making it close to useless. Irrespective they had known the issue and marketed anyway If they treat their diy DAC for €1.000 same way, then good-bye.

The mislabelling does not preclude the use of the case to protect the KTB, so it is hardly rendered useless. Not all cases were mislabelled, I would guess (but don’t know; neither, I suspect, do you) that only a small number were affected, so hardly a case of knowingly selling a product with issues. My experience suggests that Audiophonics will quickly and satisfactorily resolve these issues…

The RPi player market is a minefield for people like Audiophonics, Allo, Michelangelo and his team. We’re a very demanding set of customers, wanting something of high quality for free, or for very little.

As I said above, be thankful you have a choice. Rather than knock people for trying, try a little patience, or simply go elsewhere.

Audiophonics now offers full refund for defective units, according to their notes on this forum … Good shop!!!

In my opinion, the RPi-based audio stacks have entered the HiFi / audiophile area, with well-established brands and products.
When investing a certain amount of money, the users have expectations. It is not about tinkering any more: it is about quality.

This quality depends on several factors:

  • product quality (specifications)
  • build quality (components and hardware quality)
  • packaging quality (the box)
  • user experience (feel good factor)
  • service quality (support, updates)

I would be curious what is the sales distribution among the RPi DAC on Volumio. What do the users prefer.
