I’m running the latest version of Volumio on a headless Raspberry Pi 5. The music files are stored on a old seagate usb drive I had laying around which is plugged into the Pi.
If I need to add music (or album artwork) would I just unplug the drive and update the contents? Is there some safe way to unplug the drive without shutting down the Pi? I already had trouble after trying a shutdown. Had to reinstall Volumio as it wouldnt connect to the app on my phone.
Volumio should present the drive on the network through Samba protocol
Putting \\volumio (or the name you gave it / or its ip adress) into the file explorer should give you the access to the drive
There might be password to put. It worked for me with user volumio, password volumio
(picture provided from a linux computer). You may have to refresh the music library afterwards
activating the ssh access to the Pi (adress is something like volumio.local\dev from your browser)
open a command line and using ssh to access the pi
(something like ssh volumio@192.168.x.x =ip adress. This is documented on the internet. user volumio password volumio)
then use the linux command like sudo umount /media/username/USB_NAME or sudo umount /dev/sdb1
But, that’s me and i haven’t checked if you could just right click on the drive and tell him to eject/umount directly [my pi is powered off at the moment]
Maybe other will have much better ways…
[edit: Gemini tells me that the “righ click” should work]
it’s pretty easy once you remember what to type into win explorer, and allow network discovery (private). I’m getting the enter network credentials prompt again, forget what it is (or may have blocked it myslef)
You can’t access this shared folder because your organization’s security policies block unauthenticated guest access. These policies help protect your PC from unsafe or malicious devices on the network.
Hey mate thanks for replying. It was working fine in the past, had to do a system restore/reinstalled. I may have changed the default password (for at least a bit better security), as I tried that.
Edit: I confirmed the password in the command prompt. Just a bit confused about the win network settings for private networks, public networks, usually turn file and printer sharing off.
