HifiBerry AMP2 no sound and/or ALSA error

First of all I would like to say I love Volumio with my RP3 and USB dacs! It works smooth and sounds great! Thanks for this Michelangelo and others!

Unfortunately I have no such luck with my RP3 with HifiBerry AMP2 (Volumio 2.452). After first installing and starting it all up via Wifi and installing Spotify connect plugin all worked smooth and fine. But… after a reboot I got no sound at al. Looked at several forums and webpages for answers and tried most suggestions (selecting different dac, installing equalizer, reboot after deselecting I2S etc). This gives no result but no sound or this error message:

Error failed to open “alsa”[alsa]; Failed to open ALSA device “hw:1,0”: No such file or directory.

Some extra info. The AMP2 worked well for quite a while with Kodi before and like said worked after the first boot of Volumio, so I would suspect no hardware issue here.

Does anyone have a solution for this frustrating issue? Thanks!

I’ve had similar with low supply voltage - the RPi is happy but the DAC is not. Measure volts at the RPi input - you want a good 5V3 to 5V5.

Also what version of Volumio are you running?
Try 2.389 - I’m having similar problems with later builds.

Thanks BG. Power seems ok. Running Volumio 2.452. Will try to downgrade. Hope developers can fix this. Will report my findings!

From Hifiberry I get the advice to:

“Check the output of “aplay -l”. Volumio sometimes seems to create an incorrect configuration.”

Does anyone know how to do this? I am not a very advanced user and only used the Volumio UI for settings. Can’t find “Aply -l” in the UI and assume it’s in some settings file.

By the way: does anyone have Volumio build 2.389? so I can try BG’s suggestion?

Many thanks for your help!
Jorg

Worked on the Hifiberry suggested solution and got it to work!

How:
Ok. First had to enable SSH in dev mode, but after that could access the RP.

That’s done. Got this result:

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****

Not sure how to read this, but I see Hifiberry dac.

After this I was able to select Hifiberry DAC Plus - I2S DAC = on and Dac model DAC plus again (in Volumio UI). Not sure why, but happy it works and after 3 restarts I think it might be stable.

Hope this helps others with similar issues

Thanks for the help!
