Thanks for reporting this. We are looking into this
Thanks let me know if you discover where is the problem and if you can correct so I can do some checks if it’s back to work. Thanks
Do you have updates about streaming count on Spotify for artist? Thanks
Hi @Abanoguest03,
I am the developer of go-librespot, the library that is under the Volumio plugin for Spotify. Handling of playback reporting in the librespot community has always been an issue due to individuals abusing the projects and Spotify getting angry. You can read more about the topic here.
Hi @devgianlu, I’m not understand very well all the topics you send me, but I want to tell you that is not legal permit with your plugin that people listen music without Spotify paying the royalties. If Spotify have problems with bots or others things is a Spotify problems and has the money and the engineers to resolve it if they want. So why you are so worried about it? Is not your problem but if you release a plugin that not count the streaming, this is yes a your problem.
@Abanoguest03 the thing that emerges from this thread is that if this plugin is used to boost artificially listens, then this would be a big problem.
We are actively looking for solutions which are beneficial to all parties involved. This turned out to be more complex than initially anticipated but we are committed to it.
I probably wasn’t clear enough! You cannot make people listen to music for free without spotify paying steaming rights, otherwise you become like Napster or sites that allow you to download free movies and do not pay rights. It’s against the law!!! Is it clear now?
If you do not integrate the streaming account on spotify for artist immediately, I will be forced to report to the offices responsible for checking!
No worries — your message was perfectly clear, and we’ve received it. That said, it seems there’s a misunderstanding about what’s involved in properly fixing the issue at hand. Let us clarify a few key points so our position and direction are well understood:
- We strongly support the idea that artists should be better compensated. We are on the same side here. Comparing us to Napster or accusing us of undermining artists is not only incorrect but also unfair. Please keep the discussion respectful — abusive language will not be tolerated, and repeated violations will result in a ban.
- Regarding the issue with listen reporting: the open-source Spotify integration we use does have a limitation — it only reports listens under certain conditions (not when used outside of Connect). This isn’t a flaw on our side, but a safeguard put in place because this reporting mechanism was previously abused by some users to inflate streams fraudulently, which hurts both Spotify and the artists.
- We’re already working on a proper solution. In fact, we have a proof-of-concept in place to safely report streams while still preventing abuse. But this must be done carefully and correctly.
- If we rush this and introduce a flawed solution, Spotify could revoke access to the library we use. That would mean all users — not just you — would lose access. Clearly, that’s not an option.
- So no, this cannot and should not be “fixed immediately.” Demanding it in such a way is both unrealistic and unhelpful.
- Lastly, don’t direct blame at those who are actually trying to do the right thing — especially when we are among the few who genuinely care about fairness in this space. If this kind of misplaced blame continues, you will no longer be welcome here.
