Hi all
I have just invested in a couple of SBCs to update my digital front end.
Volumio is running on a Raspberry Pi 3B+ with Allo Digione board, a no-name S/PDIF cable into the back of my Naim 272 preamp acting as DAC only.
Files are served from an SSD containing RIPs I made on iTunes over many years, which is connected by SATA to a Banana Pi M2 berry running Ubuntu and Samba and is therefore a simple NAS.
Both SBCs are connected by Ethernet to a wireless router with 5 Ethernet ports acting as a wireless bridge to the rest of my home network and, eventually via an ADSL router elsewhere in the house, the Internet.
It’s been an interesting journey but I’m reasonably happy with results so far. I can stream Internet radio, files discovered from the NAS, and Spotify Connect. SQ is very detailed, a bit hard at present compared to (say) Spotify Connect direct into the N272 which can be a native client, but more detailed and with more bass.
I have some questions, perhaps someone here can help a newbie?
- What does the red LED on the Raspberry Pi mean when running Volumio? Sometimes its is solidly on, sometimes it flashes. More often it is solidly on. I have had the system lock up and the red LED is on permanently, and I have to power-cycle the Pi. I have also been able to log on and select songs and the red LED is permanently on.
- Is there a way to search Volumio for songs based on sample rate? In some cases I have the same song recorded as low or high bitrate MP3, or as Apple Lossless, or as WAV - but I can’t see a way to identify which is which except by playing each song and looking at the playback screen.
- How does bonjour advertising work? I’m using my iPhone on my local wireless network and can type ‘volume.local’ into Safari and it pops up nicely; in a Macbook running MacOS I do the same thing in Safari on the same wireless network and it refuses to work. I have to type in the IP address of the Pi instead. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
