Hi,
My name is Alberto and I’m a software engineer
.
I live and work in Zurich, Switzerland but I’m Italian.
I bought my first Hi-Fi system when I was 15 years old. It was composed by a Pioneer PL-514 turntable, a Pioneer SA-8500 II amplifier and I don’t remember the loudspeakers brand, but probably they were not a top brand. At the time it has been already a big investment buying all this stuff which I paid entirely with my with my part time job since I was going to school and working in the afternoon to pay my hobbies.
Later on, when I moved from my parents, I left my system to my brothers and got a new one composed by a Cyrrus I amplifier, Mission 781 loudspeakers and a Denon DCD-560 CD player.
During the years the Denon DCD-560 has passed away but the amp and the loudspeakers were still working but not used anymore.
I have decided recently to bring amp and loudspeakers to life again. To be honest, I miss the good sound I used to hear when I was young. Never had the chance to use them because nowadays all music is digital and I thought I had to invest in some new equipment to listen digital music in a proper way.
Then I have read an article on a computer magazine talking about a card to be put on top of a raspberry Pi and allowing to have a DAC which can bring really good quality audio despite being not so expensive.
And this is what I was looking for. But in the meantime my old amp actually got some problems
and I had to take it to maintenance. Luckily it has been repaired without spending a fortune
. Now that the amp it’s back to life I intend to buy Allo Boss Player and see how it works. Probably I’ll make my order soon.
Cheers.
Alberto.
Hi Alberto ! Welcome onboard !
Allo boss is a good choice to start. I use it with a +30 years old amp, a Rega Brio and it sounds so good !
Hi,
I’ve been playing only for 1hr with my new Allo Boss Player (arrived today) connected with my very old amp Cyrus I and my old speakers Mission 781.
These gears are about 28 years old. I think I bought them in 1990 but they don’t show their age.
Connected with Allo Boss Player, despite Boss is not “warmed up” yet, my ears are in love.
I’m listening two CDs, also quite old, that I’ve ripped to FLAC: “The dark side of the moon” and “Animals” from Pink Floyd. Sorry if these do no match your taste but it’s so nice to hear a clear, clean, crisp sound of two of my favourite albums.
Unfortunately living in a swiss building and not having a proper sound isolation I cannot raise to much the volume knob but I really like it.
Compliments also to Volumio: the interface is really great and easy to deal with. I haven’t yet finished discovering all features but I really like how it works.
Setting up was really smooth. I connected everything: ethernet cable, usb key with few songs (as a temporary test), RCA connectors to amp and power connection finally. Then after a while type on my browser the address volumio.local and started playing it.
FLAC is playing really well. I’ve also tried playing music from my iPad using Airplay. Everything works perfectly and sound is really wonderful.
I’m planning slowly to convert all my CD collection and put them on a powered hard drive connected to the Allo Boss Player.
Thank you so much to everybody for such great products
Regards,
Alberto
Welcome Alberto
What a wonderful introduction, and may I applaud your choice in music!
Great to have you on board.
