Hi all,
I’m a DIY builder and just joined this forum to follow Volumio related news.
I’m into 2 topics now:
1. Experiment with an all-in-one Volumio based player solution for my living room instead of Foobar2000. I have some strange container files too, like CD and SACD ISO files, don’t know yet if Volumio can do anything with them (“see” into them and play from them). But the main music library is FLAC, all kind of (CD and “hi-res”).
2. I came here now to check out Volumio’s multiroom capabilities because a friend of mine is wanting such a system, with Android app-controlled EVERYTHING, like amp power ON-OFF (either all of them or just the rooms/zones she wants) etc. In today’s development form I have the feeling it’s still very beta so to say… I think she being a non-tech woman better sticks with a Yamaha MusicCast system NOW but otherwise my OWN DIY system will be ready by 2019 so I hope there will be a lot of development around Multiroom solutions in Volumio, most importantly what I’m hoping is User Interface enhancements (for Multiroom) and some kind of solution for amplifier ON/OFF relay control - we DIYers could need such a function soo much.
Imagine a lifelike situation: I play my favourite music via Volumio on my living room hifi… guests are gone … and then I’d like to activate my bedroom’s zone too for the same music, bathroom too, take a shower and go to bed while the music doesn’t even stop for a second, from my bed of course I deactivate the living room and the bathroom’s amps and only the bedroom amp is playing - when I fell asleep I swith it off as well, all from my hands via a nice Android app. Or android tablet. Or bathroom in-wall touchscreen. Whatever.
My DIY amp (all of them) have to get some kind of wake-up signal to switch on, else they’re on standby and a small Arduino electronics is waiting for an event on infrared or via idontknowyet. Maybe Volumio can or will provide a solution for such in the future to be able to trigger an Arduino - the rest of the switch-on process will be the Arduino’s task, offtopic here.
Can’t wait for a good working reliable solution !
Bottom line: try to stay lifelike while diving deep in all the techie stuff.
