Do I have to worry about updates for the OS?

Hi,

here is a (maybe?) silly question for the experts: I update Volumio on my RPi every few weeks but I don´t update anything in the RPi-OS. I fact, since I´ve installed it a few years ago, it is running and I have never updated anything apart from Volumio.
Do I have to worry about that or does Volumio take care of that with the updates?

best regards,
Harry

I’d firmly advise to keep updated. Bug fixes, improvements, etc. Much easier for Volumio to support if everyone is up to date.

Just checking … When I say keep updating, I mean Volumio updates. Never use the Pi updater on your Volumio system or you’ll break it. I presume you didn’t mean that.

Hi Simon,

of course I do the Volumio updates. I was wondering if these updates are only for the application and I have to update the OS seperately.

Volumio is an OS by itself, based on Debian. When you update Volumio, all requirements for Volumio are updated or kept to keep your system in order to run as well as possible. You don’t need to do something else.
More important, trying to update in a other way will sure brick your system.
