Infected by the Volumio virus I planned to build a player for use in my electronics workshop. I had just upgraded the speakers in the shop with a nice pair of old Linn Keilidh speakers. After a small refresh these vintage speakers sound excellent! Still working on the repair of a vintage Pioneer amp to drive these. At the moment the small vintage Sansui does the job.
This streamer is of a simple design with just a Rpi4B, IQ audio DAC Pro board, 30W powersupply and a MiPi 6.9” 280x1424 LCD-screen with a HDMI interface board.
The screen fitted nice in the narrow 19” Philips tuner casing. The turn knobs are used with 2 rotary encoders for volume/mute/shutdown and play/pause and prev/next.
Testing the small screen I encounter serious problems. Testing on the Rpi4 with 280x1424 settings it was not possible to get the screen to work. After some research it seemed the HDMI that came with this screen does not support this resolution! You have to set the resolution to 600x1280 to get an image on the screen.
Doing this, a lot of info on the screen is not shown since the screen only shows the first or last 280 pixels. Luckily, the “Now Playing” plugin enables you to place all important info in the visible part.
If anyone has a solution for this screen issue, I am interested so I can use the full width of 1424 pixels.
update May 2th, With the help of @nerd the display issue is as good as resolved. It now shows the entire 1424 pixels in width. the Now Playing plugin. and the Peppymeter templates have to be changed to match the new resolution. Thank @nerd for your insights!
The latest unofficial version of PeppyMeter screensaver was installed and custom VU-meter templates were designed to match the vintage style of the Philips 19” range equipment.
It is now playing in the shop for the last 2 weeks without any issues!
The coming weeks a start will be made on a Volumio player for my brother matching his micro set.
