Hi all.

So, fairly new to stereo equipment and Volumio.

I wanted to make a setup, with a streamer able to do a bunch of various sources - so naturally Volumio popped up.

So, I bought a Digione Player (Digione+RPI3). My plan was to install a touchscreen to allow girlfriend and guests to control volume and music from a touchscreen at the stereo and also via their own smartphones, but I’ve recently been educated about the software volume issues.

So, in short - is it possible to control the volume from a touchscreen on Volumio without degrading the sound quality - or is that simply the inherent problem of using a Raspberry Pi with a Digital output, that you can’t control the volume on (for instance) Volumio without degrading sound quality?

some improofments of my room

i made a test for you, volume control with software and without. the volume control over my DAC is much better than the software control. i think software control is the second choise for “better equipment”. a friend uses also volumio with low level equipment, software volume works fine for him.
