I want to firstly say that I have searched for an answer to my question on this site and using internet searches but to no success. So I am hoping someone can help.
I have a Denafrips Ares 12th-1 dac and am looking to connect Rivo+ via the i2s connection. The issue is that I’m not sure which pinout setting to use on the Denafrips. For the Pontus 15th, common consensus seems to be to use setting #6, but I can’t find any information for Ares 12th-1.
Can anybody who has an Ares 12th-1 connected to to Rivo+ using the i2s connection tell me which pinout setting to use?
As a Rivo+ owner, you’re entitled to premium support from Volumio. If you need assistance, simply submit a support ticket and their team will guide you through the process.
Maybe it’s better to contact their support and ask the details about the pin mapping with the several available settings, or ask directly what setting matches the Rivo Plus pinout when Denapfris is selected on the drop-down menu
I did contact Denafrips.eu but no one has got back to me. I was hoping that somebody has already tried the trial and error approach and knew which pinout to choose.
Being the Ares 12th from the same manufacturer as the Pontus 15th (Denafrips), and being the I2S setting method identical (8 combinations, from 000 to 111), my educated guess is that the same setting of Puntus 15th can be applied to the Ares 12th too. Most probably the firmware code-base for the two products has several common parts and the I2S mode selection might be one of these.
My suggestion is to select the mode 6 highlighted in the picture above, and then verify if the left-right mapping is correct for both PCM (I2S) and DSD. You can use the test files provided by Deanafrips.
On the Rivo Plus, please select “Denafrips” in the drop-down menu.
I have Pontus 2. I find the simplest way is to scroll through all the options while playing music and settling on the one that works and sounds best. Note that what works for pcm might not work for dsd.
