BBC further killing off Web Radio in favour of BBC sounds App?

Just merged an other posting to this one. Thanks for the reminder.

Thank you very much for showing that link. It’s an easy job to cut and paste those URLs and add them to “my web radios” and change quality to 320 bps. I’ve no idea why the BBC are hiding this information
5 star info

The old BBC feeds stopped working today. These ones are fine, however (at least in the UK):

Thank you. BBC stopped working Friday and your link got it working again.

Also, I swapped out ‘sbr_med’ for ‘sbr_high’, thank you metro.

Using sbr_high doesn’t work for me in NL. I need to keep it on sbr_low. For example. BBC 6 is:
http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/nonuk/sbr_low/ak/bbc_6music.m3u8

This has hit hard today… was all working fine, but today none of the Volumio Suggested BBC links are working. The ones I configured about a year ago to get around the streaming changes by the BBC have also stopped working… I have tried the URLs above, but the Music6 one has a drop out after drop out to the point that it’s un-listenable…

Do Volumio have a plan? this is quite an impact to UK users of the software! Is the Hardware they sell also impacted?

I understand it’s not caused by Volumio, but, for me, it a massive use case… and very disappointing…

BTW. I have also tried the Sounds App casting to a CCA from a Android Tablet and that also has drop outs… where as if listens to directly on the Tablet it’s fine

It’s a moving target with BBC streams. Try this

Thanks, but I still get stuttering with that URL… I’m now searching for old phones in the house to reuses as a BBC Radio Streamer… This is progress I guess!

It’s a bit hit and miss. Yesterday it was fine, today some stuttering. Still a lot better with the ‘norewind’ bit removed from the url.

I have the Audio Buffer Size in Volumio gen. playback options set to 2MB. Don’t know if increasing that would help.

Hi - I don’t know if you’ve tried these links, but I have been using them for the last week without experiencing the stutter that the “raw” links exhibit in Volumio (although not in VLC or Foobar2000).
As far as the Volumio buffer setting is concerned I usually have mine set to 12MB without any problems. However I have just tried setting to 2MB with no noticable difference!

Good luck - and keep trying!
Michael

Michael,

Thanks for these links.
Listening to BBC Radio 6 Music right now (from Belgium).

Greetings,
Steven

@Newbiggen The BBC Radio 3 link works perfect from the Netherlands.

They all work in NL, except 5 Live. Still using this link for that.

Many thanks for this info Newbiggen. I’ve altered the URLs for most of these stations and they all work. I’ve always used a 8MB buffer which has always works and so I haven’t changed things. I don’t know why the BBC has changed things again. Strangely World Service didn’t need changing.

After a quick internet search, I found this excellent source with a list of all BBC radio URLs:

I hope that this helps others. Ian

Thanks for these! As of today the URLs I had been using started giving “Error 410: Gone”. Never seen that error before! But these are working.

Many thankks!!

Garfnet is an excellent resource. I’ve been using it for a while now to create my BBC web radio streams for Volumio, although I’ve noticed them buffering a bit lately which isn’t that great.
