I’ve just updated to Android app version 1.3 and it no longer rotates with screen orientation - portrait mode only. Tested on a tablet and phone, same issue.
I solely used landscape mode with no issues - so bloody frustrating! Why change it when its been working fine?

Yes can confirm this.
Seems related to V1.3, released on 29-Jul-2022. I expect this is a beta release. as mentioned above by @jooonl , when using it as 2nd screen, landscape is pretty mandatory.

For the time being you can use an app called Rotation Control, which does the trick.
You might need to enable the developer options and adjust the minimal display width if the album doesn’t show, or you can’t select you Volumio instance. But increase the value in small steps of 20 dp.
System => Advanced => Developer Options => Smallest width
Or more simple solution, leave the Beta test program
