Hi - I am new to this forum. I have a Raspberry Pi 3 B with a Digi+ HAT.
I have a large CD collection and want to rip it a Disk use a FLAC encoder and play it back using Volumio.
Can anyone suggest how to do this? I was considering getting another Raspberry Pi and using NAS software to build a NAS storage device and then mount this drive on the Volumio System and my PC and use my PC to rip the CDs.
Any recommendations for something simple? I just want to rip my CDs using FLAC and playing it back on the Volumio system that will connect to my DAC and integrated amplifier.
Lots of choices for ripping your CDs. Foobar does a pretty good job doing most of the work for you. If you have Linux or don’t mind installing it somewhere, ABCDE supports multiple drives simultaneously and finds meta data for you.
For hardware, I use an external USB drive just plugged into my router. Works fine. It’s slow when I need to copy, move or edit a lot of files, but it’s easy to unmount and move to a direct USB connection.
First:
I have a PI 3B sitting on the wall, connected via WLAN to my router/home network.
Then there is a usb drive connected to it, formatted to ntfs to hold all data.
On that PI i installed Jessie Lite edition and included a miniDLNA Server to serve music video pics.
Plus there is a SambaServer to allow for transfering new media and to have a convenient data storage for the PCs on that net.
Plus there is a tvheadend server connected to a DVB-T antenna to get freeOTA television to serve.
This media server/data storage runs 24/7.
Second:
I have a PI ZeroW holding Volumio standard installation residing on my desk.
Normally it’s music storage is the SambaServer and or DLNA server.
If i use it on the go i habe a usb soundcard and a power bank and a local music storage on the inside sd card.
There is also the Spotify connect app and the Spotify app for convenient high quality music streaming whereever there is a net to connect to…
At home ZeroW fires a Behringer 302USB as a DAC plus the Behringer Line in connects to an APTX HD Bluetooth receiver to have my cellphone
connected wirelessly.
The master out of the Behringer connects to the desktop stereo / PC speakers.
This systems runs on demand.
Third:
At the moment i am experimenting to use another PI to hold Volumio plus KODI media center (which is a plugin to Volumio).
This aims to use a simple computer monitor as a smart TV plus insane music playing capabilities.
All my CD music is ripped using EAC on a windows pc.
Still 20 CDs to go and after that i have all my music ripped to
mp3 on 320kBps for on-the-go
flac with tags for the home network
wav including cue sheet to preserve the original cd
because i already have a few bought cds that became faulty over the years but
EAC is able to correct minor faults.
Insane amount of work, but i am mad anyway.
